A living history museum. Among the English settlements here until after the French and Indian War, what is now known as the town of Charleston began as a fortified 10-family settlement in the 1740s along the Connecticut River. The fort has been authentically recreated and they present its fascinating history including life during a dangerous time with exhibits and reenactments. Museum gift shop offers interesting books including one on real frontier recipes.
