As a prelude to the Hampton Beach Sand Sculpting Competition being held this year from June 19-21, all of the master sand sculptors pool their talents in the days before this annual event to create a single work which honors the event’s sponsors.
With that set for completion on June 18, the 15 artists will then spend June 19-21 creating his/her own entry in the competition. Spectators can watch at any point during the process. Voting then takes place with awards given at 8pm on Saturday the 21st, followed by fireworks on the beach.
These sand sculptures are amazingly detailed works of art that are absolutely worth seeing, either while they’re being created or after they’re finished.
They are then sprayed with a weather-resistant fixative for continued viewing long after the competition is over. This year the sculptures will be maintained through July 6 for viewing both during the day and after dark via special lighting.
