Just 23 minutes from Portsmouth, 27 minutes from Manchester and VERY kid-friendly, Coppal House Farm is a working farm in the small, quaint and scenic town of Lee, NH, and in addition to offering their naturally-made cold-pressed Sunflower Oil from their own crops as well as other locally-made products, during September and October they feature a rather phenomenal corn maze that’s proven to be loads of fun for all ages.
This year’s theme is the River Otter, and spaced throughout the maze are mailboxes with theme-related “clue questions” that are fun to answer, and depending on your answer, will guide you to the next turn. These clues are suited to all age groups including children. There are also “Corn Cops” throughout the maze for any questions you may have or any other needs.
Weekends in October add horse-drawn wagon rides for a very small fee and in addition to their store you can also visit the draft horses and baby lambs housed in part of their multi-purpose barn.
The store provides light snacks and locally-made Squamscot beverages (we’ve had these and they are absolutely delicious, by the way) and you are quite welcome to bring a box lunch to enjoy your own picnic while there.
The whole Coppal House Farm experience can be educational as well as fun, but it also lets families connect with an older way of life.
Additionally special on September 21, October 12 and October 26 are their Flashlight Maze nights (bring flashlight or a cell phone works too) which is fun for adults and families, especially since they have a big bonfire to warm you afterward, along with a glass of apple cider and donut. Note that on October 26, (Halloween weekend) the Night Maze will be a spooky one. Not gory or anything, but do expect you may get startled along your way. Other special events during September and October are included in our UPDATES post.
More complete information can be found on their website www.nhcornmaze.com including winter’s sleigh rides for those who will be here then too!
