Each summer Prescott Park in Downtown Portsmouth presents its season-long Prescott Park Arts Festival which includes a showcase of cultural events and fun entertainment. The 2014 season kicks off on Saturday, June 7 with The Chowder Festival.
Provided by about a dozen New Hampshire restaurants competing for the title of Best Chowder, typically, more than 500 gallons of this traditional New England dish have gotten consumed in tastings by the public who then vote on their favorites. This is the oldest and largest Chowder Festival in New England, and has been known to draw over 4,000 people.
Tastings start at 11:30am and continue until the chowder is gone. Participation is $14 for adults and $7 for youths 12 and under.
Prescott Park itself is a beautiful setting, with lovely gardens to stroll through and views of the water. More about the Chowder Festival is here.
